FYOOTCHER
Don't worry about the Fact that CiviliZation's about to fall by the wayside.
This has been predicted, in one form or another, by most everyone.
What's so Good about CiviliZation?
All things must pass.
More to the point-- All things
Do.
Impermanence
the Rule.
So seZ Buddhism.
Apocalypse...
The Coming Messiah...
EcoLogical Collapse, preached by environmentalists-- and many (most) scientists...
Nuclear Doom, feared by All...
Who knows which...?
One Thing Certain:
the earth will continue to orbit-- until it, too, passes.
With or without the human species.
Not Religion... just basic Truth.
All Things Pass.
Basic, basic...
Just because CiviliZation is guaranteed to pass...
Need we fear?
Need we believe our own existence is threatened by the passing away of civilization...?
Need we feel attached, fearful, convinced we'll go down if the ship does?
No.
If Humanity in fact (for that matter, if any other circumstance) destroys, poisons, or otherwise compromises the ecological systems that make earth-life possible for humans...
Then we shall pass, sooner rather than later.
but if what we know and celebrate as the Grand Accomplishment of CiviliZation--
collapses...
we needn't necessarily wallow in doomed despair...
If a self-destructive system in fact destroys itself-- (likely...), it doesn't necessarily mean the end of humans
themselves...
There'll be struggles, violence, loss...
There already is.
But those who survive the Collapse needn't, necessarily, mourn homo civiliZaticus...
We Could move on.
Where?
How?
-Where the pollution, radiation is least permanently harmful...
-By growing, weaving, sewing our own...
-By Paying Closer Attention to Ecology-- the laws of the planet, of Life-- rather than self-absorbed/ destructive focus on
Economy.
It's the Ecology, silly.
By re-establishing small, local, self-sufficient communities-- villages-- focused on enriching, nurturing the land, the soil... using local "resources," renewable resources, less utilities and infotainment and jet-setting and corporate-produced "necessities"...
ReThink what is Necessary, what's Most Important.
Becoming more and more local, less and less fossil-fuel, long-distance-transportation oriented...
There is no obstacle to this being done.
This is being done, still, all over this planet, by humans.
We might call them... the Meek.
...as oposed to CiviliZation-Worshippers (WarShippers)-- Addicts--
the Arrogant.
At its Foundation, that's all
CiviliZation is,
ever was...
Arrogance.
Self-AggrandiZement...
At the expense of
Many.
The Experiment is nearing
completion.
The Experiment has Failed.

More Inconvenient Truth:
The following is from the introduction to Scott Nearings' "Civilization and Beyond".
You can read more, or the entirety of it, online at:
http://www.gutenberg.org/catalog/world/readfile?fk_files=58053&pageno=1
or by clicking the "Scott Nearing, Civilization" link, the middle link in the second section of linx, section II.
"Until quite recently the word "civilization" has been used in academic
circles to symbolize a social idea or ideal...
Professor of History Anson D. Morse of Amherst College
presents such a view in his _Civilization and the World War_ (Boston:
Ginn 1919). For him, civilization is "the sum of things in which the
heritage of the child of the twentieth century is better than that of
the child of the Stone Age. As a process it is the perfection of man and
mankind. As an end, it is the realization of the highest ideal which men
are capable of forming.... The goal of civilization ... is human society
so organized in all of its constituent groups that each shall yield the
best possible service to each one and thereby to mankind as a whole,
(producing) the perfect organization of humanity." (page 3).
Such thoughts may be noble and inspired; they are not related to
history. We know more or less about a score of civilizations that have
occupied portions of the earth during several thousand years. We know
a great deal about the western civilization which we observe and in
which we participate. Professor Morse's florid words apply to none of
the civilizations known to history. Certainly they are poles away from an
accurate characterization of our own varient of this social pattern.
We are writing this introduction in an effort to make our word pictures
of mankind and its doings correspond with the facts of social history.
With the nuclear sword of Damocles hanging over our heads, it is high
time for us to exchange the clouds of fancy and the flowers of rhetoric
for the solid ground of historical reality. The word "civilization" must
generalize what has been and what is, as nearly as the past and
present can be embodied in language."
For more about Scott Nearing, check this out:

or click the "Scott Nearing, Radical link just after "Nearing, Civilization" in the linx...

It will not be another revolution.
We are the ones we're waiting for.

MILESTONE CELEBRATION!!
One of the main features of this site is, of course, the links at the right...
The compilation has been growing throughout this site's life...
And I just counted them, for the first time:
90 LINKS!!
To celebrate (and to ease use, hopefully), I've divided the links into groupings of 10 ).
I'll keep adding linx, of course... and try to keep up with the 1-10 thing. No promises.

It's a great read, and very interesting in implication. Well-researched, not dogmatic, intriguing.
It's the link called HomeSchooling at right, or cut'n paste the following into yer browser:
